A Victorian silver ceremonial trowel hallmarked London 1854 by George Adams with carved ivory handle. Inscribed "Presented to/ The Right Hon. The Earl of Shaftesbury/ DCL &c &c/ on the occasionof his laying/ The Foundation Stone/ of the/ Hull Ragged & Industrial Schools/ March 26th 1856". 14.25" long.
Note: there is a hair-line crack in the ivory handle.
